Write about a ceremony that you have attended
Easter, three years ago I went to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for my uncle’s wedding. I went with my parents, sister and most of my family from my mother’s side, which live in Britain. I chose to write about this ceremony because it was very memorable to me. I was able to see a lot of my family that I have not seen in many years. It was great to catch up with my aunts and uncles; and their children. This wedding was also a different experience to the Indian weddings that I have been to, here in Britain.

As people sat down the priest quietened everyone then started the ceremony, where the groom had to do a few prayers then the priest called up the groom’s brother and sister to hold a wide, decorated white cloth in front of my uncle, before the bride enters. This was to symbolise their meeting for the first time, as in the past it would have been an arranged marriage. Everyone stood up for the bride and gasped at her beauty as she walked in. She looked breathtaking in a red and gold sari that covered her head and heavy gold jewellery on her arms and neck that twinkled every time she took a step. As she took her brother and uncle’s hands to walk down the aisle I caught a glimpse of her intricate and complex henna that covered her arms and hands. As she passed me I could hear her jewellery chime, also hear the shutter clicks and see the flashes of the cameras from the wedding photographers and the guests. Once the bride reached the wedding area called a ‘mandap’, the groom’s brother and sister dropped the cloth so the groom could take in his stunning bride. He met her eyes and awed at her beauty.
