Family’s Community and Environment
The participating family’s community is a suburban city that lives of Miami that is known as North Miami Beach in Florida. The total are of the city is 5.3 square miles, out which 5.0 square miles is land and 0.3 square miles is water. The transportation system in Miami Beach is activated by Miami Dade Transit, and public transportation is heavily relied on in this community (AirFlyers, 2014). The surrounding environment of the family consists of several low income and shabby houses (Annerbäck, 2012).
The neighborhood is very crowded, and consists mostly of rundown apartments. There is a strong influence of mobsters of the 50s of Miami Beach such as Al Capone on the lifestyle and environment of this community. The people have a very laidback lifestyle and men are generally leading a sedentary lifestyle with no jobs due to alcoholism issue that is prevalent. There are grand beach hotels inspired by Vegas style that have been established a few miles away from the region where the family is located. This region of North Miami Beach is on the mainland, and the community consists of drug addicts and gangs (AirFlyers, 2014). It was also observed that many young Hispanic boys are involved in these gangs, and have no educational background (Annerbäck, 2012).
The particular Hispanic family with respect to their surroundings and background are at a risk of various diseases. The father is an a 42 year old alcoholic who lost his job a year back due to alcoholism and turning up drunk for work. He has no sense of responsibility, takes no part in family decision making, and is usually found in the liquor store in the neighborhood. The husband is suffering from Ascites due to liver failure resulting from excessive alcohol consumption. The mother is a 38 year old hardworking woman who tries to meet the demands of the family by working in the neighborhood supermarket, and she also suffers from verbal abuse from her husband. The mother has no education and is very religious; however the rest of the family has no religious or spiritual inclinations. They family lives in a bedroom apartment with poor sanitation conditions (Annerbäck, 2012).
The 16 year old teenage daughter is pregnant and has a boyfriend who is HIV infected. Thus the daughter lives in fear if she has been infected. She got her self tested, and however the results so far have been negative. The two twins are 5 years old who are in kindergarten, and the mother tries extremely hard to try to pay for their education and day care center. There are several health disparities of this population that includes lack of education and socio-economic concerns (Annerbäck, 2012).
Observation about Cultural Diversity and Vulnerable Population
