Since email first emerged as a business tool, companies have increased productivity, decreased costs and found new marketing venues. Executives are able to receive almost real-time status updates and can therefore make well-informed decisions. Email can also be used to rapidly disseminate information to multiple employees at the same time. What is the effect of instant messaging on organizational networks? What are benefits and drawbacks of using instant messaging in an organization?
A benefit of instant messaging is that a notice can be sent immediately but has a drawback in that it is not very professional. The benefits of web pages and search engines are that an organization can put research into projects, create revenue with their own web page as an advertisement adding detail about the organization. On the other hand a drawback would be that employees have access to misuse these search engines and web pages.
What are benefits and drawbacks of web page and search engine use in an organization?
A benefit would be access to new and valuable sources of information that came into being because of the Internet. These include electronic journals (e-journals) and Internet discussion groups. A more efficient route for accessing certain standard information sources such as newspapers, particularly overseas papers and electronic versions of existing print journals. Search engines also have disadvantages. It may bring people to various pornographic websites. Those websites are especially harmful for children. And search engine have not found the best way to keep those evil websites from kids now.
Should managers monitor employee e-mail and Internet usage? Why or why not?
Yes, managers should monitor employee e-mails and Internet usage. The less personal activity on the internet, the more productivity to the organization.
