Hugh McCauley, COO of Riordan Manufacturing wants to combine existing variety of tolls that are used in a single integrated application. Key factors that will indicate the information required for this project is gathered effectively will be identified and a detailed project plan will be supplied. The detailed project plan will display day-to-day activities, set schedules, available resources and a financial plan. Riordan Manufacturing is a big corporation with facilities in several locations around the world. As a result of its size Riordan must have a system that is able to keep track of significant information such as employee names and other confidential data. This information should be able to be accessed from other locations as well as the home office. There are other functions that a new and improved HR system could benefit such as inventory tracking or the shipping or reception of products. These requirements legitimize the need and request for a new system implementation for Riordan Manufacturing.
1.3 Information-gathering Techniques & Systems Analysis Tools
For this project it is important to gather information from various sources to ensure the project efficiently performs its job. Starting the information-gathering process, there will be a meeting setup with key management personnel, end-users and the IT staff. In this meeting there will be an open session which allow me to address my concerns, have an open discussion where everyone can present ideas and/or concerns. This will be a step that is used throughout the process of the project to allow the team to better comprehend with the requirements, have open communication and show room for improvement for future endeavors within an employee’s job scope.
Second method that will be used for gathering information for the project will be to conduct interviews. When the individuals are selected, this will give a better understanding of what will work best for the company now and what can be implemented for improvements within the company’s human resources department. When a sufficient amount of data is collected, documented, studied and discussed the system designing process can begin for Riordan Manufacturing.
One of the most significant process that will show success for the project will be using the JAD process. JAD stands for joint application development which is a requirements definition and software systems design methodology in which stakeholders, subject matter expertise, end users, software architectures and developers attend an intense off site meeting to work out a systems details. Joint application development focuses on business problems rather technical details. This process enables users to share opinions and come to conclusions on how to solve a problem accurately. The JAD systematic process provides discipline to steps of requirements by gathering requirements timely, and reducing the requirements changes.
