War Women of World War II

Woman in World War II was saw for the first time as more than just baby making and taking care of the family. Although they have been working for centuries it had never been to the extent of what World War took it too. Woman was working building bombs, shipping food, building planes, etc., everything they could to help the men overseas. They was mothers, daughter, sisters, and boyfriends to most of them. That is a huge amount of men leaving the state and country to fight a war. As the United States was gearing up for war they had to build training facilities for new and inexperienced men. Texas had a lot of federal bases and federal money coming there was because United States Senator John Garner, who was Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Vice President and was from Texas. Garner had a lot of power in the Senate because of Texas’s one party state and he was a huge reason Franklin D. Roosevelt got a lot of those bills passed to help the people in need. With all these men leaving who was going to work all these new jobs. Texas was I high demand for people to work so it eventually women came into the forefront in accepting jobs in the urban cities. Like in Dallas where the women built B-17 Beehive bombs. Texas had forty-four army and navy bases built and Air force built sixty-five which training one million four hundred thousand men for war. With these bases bringing in people from all over the country just had more supply of jobs that men or women could work building jobs. Texas newspapers would post pictures of woman carrying wood or riveting a plane in these mass factories. An Article in Breckridge America in 1943 wrote that “America will have love, the kind of love that lasts for a life time if you work at it and that is another job for the women with the men gone.” The article was talking about the love it takes to have you man leave, it takes lots of work.
