Managing a virtual workplace
The article Managing a Virtual Workplace focuses on the advantages and disadvantages of virtual workplaces and the tools needed for managers. There are many business reasons for a virtual workplace: reduced real estate expenses, increased productivity, higher profits, improved customer service, access to global markets and environmental benefits. There are also many disadvantages of a virtual workplace: set-up and maintenance costs, loss of cost efficiencies, cultural issues, feelings of isolation, and lack of trust. Virtual teams are not appropriate for every job or company. This article is about how to overcome the disadvantages and emphasizes the advantages of a virtual workplace and hoe managers will adapt to the new challenge of managing a virtual workplace.

Virtual teams: What do we know and where do we go from here?
Virtual teams interact with each other geographically. It is estimated that companies with 5,000 or more employees use virtual teams. Virtual teams are growing because of technological advances that allow us to do so. This article defines what virtual teams are and how they rely on technology and communication. There are many attributes and inputs: group size, knowledge, skills, task and composition. The process of virtual teams and the different outcomes of the team.

There are many examples of companies that are using virtual teams. Some of the benefits that have come from implementing virtual teams are reduced real estate expenses, increased productivity, higher profits and many environmental benefits. There are also issues with a virtual workplace such as managing a team if you can’t see them or see what they are doing. This is where trust comes into play. Without trust, you really don’t have anything. If you cannot trust your team, productivity will be down and your managerial skills will come into question. As in anything you do, communication is a very important aspect of managing a virtual team and workplace You have to learn to adapt to new communication skills to be able to manage better. Some types of jobs that a virtual team of workplace work for are teleworkers, salespeople, consultants, and service. In order for a virtual team to be successful, you have to have the right people. Someone who needs constant supervision or direction would not be a good candidate for a virtual team. You need to set goals that your team members will be able to achieve. If you have the right people on your team, then trust should not be a big factor and communication should come easy. Being able to communicate with your team on a regular basis is key as you need to know where they are at different points in the project you may be working on.
