Learning style for this student is written information, rewriting if necessary to reinforce. Visual images and demonstration together with written references related to the same subject. Learning strategies for this student would usually be to do multiple practice tests, using these as reinforcement of facts known and as study guide for facts unknown. This describes a preference for information that is spoken. These students learn best from lectures, discussions, even emails and speaking on phone.
These students learn best from written information. This can be handouts at lectures or information on internet. They read and reread then write down key points to reinforce learning.
These students learn best from demonstration and practice. This can be from live demonstrations or videos. People who prefer this mode are connected to reality “either through concrete personal experiences, examples, practice or simulation.” (Fleming & Mills, pp 140-141)
Most people learn in a mix of the above styles but lean to one particular style. For those without a standout style they are considered multimodal. There are two types within this category. There are flexible learners, those that switch mode to mode depending on what they are working on and then there are those that gather information in all modes before providing a decision.
Per VARK this students learning style is read/write. This person likes to make lists, has good writing and spelling skills, makes notes and uses books and handouts as resources. This person enjoys the use of headings with definitions and takes extensive notes, sometimes verbatim. Written reinforcement and reading information is how they learn best.
