Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is important to you. What about this quality or accomplishment makes you proud and how does it relate to the person you are?I sat at my desk brainstorming which direction to go in composing my first beat. I had discovered a new program called FL Studio - an audio workstation that allows amateurs to produce music - and I was hooked. My fingers were tapping, adding an imaginary drum stem to the composition. I worked tirelessly, playing with the infinite choices of instruments to create melodies. I settled on the piano and started to play. As I added drums to the beat pattern, I realized how much I enjoyed this newfound pastime. The instrument ...view middle of the document...

This went on to become a hobby that I invested much of my free time in - a creative outlet amidst studying, activities, and family time. When composing and producing, I often put many hours and weeks of time and effort into just one song. One could say I am quite the perfectionist since I do everything possible to make my vision of a song complete. Once I reach that vision, I work even further to perfect the song because of how passionate I am about my music. After producing for a year or so, this work ethic started to influence other areas of my life, such as schoolwork. This became especially true in the middle of sophomore year when I realized how vital it is to succeed it in school. I realized I have control of my own life's soundtrack. In large part, I have control over whether this soundtrack is filled with upbeat songs, or depressing songs. I strive to make everything reach its best quality, and once it is done, I keep working and perfecting. I am now about to enter an even grander stage in my life and it is my hope to move on to successfully producing my future. In the meantime, I've been sharing the music I've produced with others. My friends come over and lie down in my room just to de-stress and listen to my music. The joy of creating and sharing is unparallel to anything I've ever felt before. As I go on to become a bioengineer, I know I will mix my determination and tireless efforts to reach a vision into the study and work that I'll be doing. I'd like to think that, as a bioengineer, I will also be a creator in the sense that I will be analyzing and designing ways in which to improve human health. This prospect is exciting, and if I ever come upon a roadblock in my studies, I will always have my music to help me get through it.
