The role of HR has changed over the years, changing from computer applications that were tasks considered to be easy, to a very complex Human Resource information system that houses lots of different applications that assist the HR dept in functioning effectively. This paper will describe how HRIS has progressed from the personnel administration field to a business-driven human capital management organizational unit. In 1970 many big and medium sized companies had departments dedicated to managing employee relations, keeping accurate records, maintaining salaries and wages. The HR managers in the 80’s were the individuals who fired employees and hired employees.
Today’s HR is more complex, with advances in technology and specialist who are trained in the practices and technology, companies can now manage compliance so they stay current with federal laws and state laws.
Key Factors Influencing changes in HR

Some of the key factors influencing change are Globalization, Technology and outsourcing to name a few. Globalization according to the Webster Dictionary is “the development of an increasingly integrated global economy marked especially by free trade, free flow of capital, and the tapping of cheaper foreign labor markets” Globalization has changed the way companies do business, they are standardizing compensation packages and created processes and policies globally for data management, performance management , compensation, education. They do this to find consistency in HR practices around the globe.

Technology has become innovative so much it has given HR personal a new way of completing processes and tasks. The advances in technology have resulted in automation of some of the function of the Human Resource Department. The major trends in technology fall in the following dimensions:-
