I really enjoyed reading and gained a lot of insight from the article Image of Social Workers in Fiction written by Beverly B. Nichols.
After reading this article I am able to take away several lessons from it. The first lesson and insight I gained from reading this article was the bias and opinions that we as a society place on individuals based on their profession. Just like a social worker I am categorized as someone who can touch the life of someone in a negative manner if I give them a horrible hair cut or shave their beard in a style that does not compliment their face. I am always being watched and judged for my actions.
Another lesson that I take away from this article is poor work environment has an impacted on the worker. If you are unhappy with your job and don’t feel you are working in a suitable environment you will not be happy. I also realized how the bias of a job and the attitude works receive from the public has an impact on the attitude the worker portrays to the public. If you are working and a negative outlook is always placed on everything you do it can cause you to have a negative outlook and respond negatively to the people around you that you are required to deal with.
