The Relationship Between Public And Private Schools

4090 words - 17 pages

A person's education is one of the most important factors in determining whether or not they will become a productive member of society. That is why when considering an education the quality of the education is almost as important as the education itself. So when private schools came into the picture the debate then began between public and private schools. There have been many discrepancies between the values of a public school as opposed to a private school. The Purpose of the Study
The purpose of this study will be to investigate whether attending private or public school has an effect on a student’s academic achievement. Education has increased as a topic of conversation among parents in America today. The importance of a good education has increased in value, and parents are searching for the best possible school for their child in preparation for college. Many believe the most opportune way for their child to succeed in studies is by attending a private school. On the other hand, another group of parents thinks that public schools are the better route (Reading Today, 2007).
Significance of the Study
Every parent wants what is best for his or her child. Though parents do not have control over everything in their child’s development, education is not one of them. A person’s education is one of the important factors in determining whether or not they will become a productive member of society. Because education is so important, what kind of education is best? Whether or not public or private school is best may be an issue worth addressing. The debate over which is better is a battle that has gone on since private schools were first introduced as an alternative. It seems most people are of the opinion that private schools are superior; the issue is simply if it is worth the money.
Research Objective
Education is a major topic of controversy in this country. People often wonder if private school is worth the money it costs and if public schools have what it takes to produce well educated, disciplined young adults. There comes a time in every parent’s life when they must decide what is best for their child and what school will prepare them for the best possible future. It is a topic that is constantly up for debate. Whether it is scholars, government officials, educators, parents or even students themselves discussing the issue, there is no concrete answer to the questions: Are private schools academically better than public schools? Does a child get a better education in a private or public school?
