The Comparison of the Necklace and the Chrysanthemums.
Although stories may be written by different authors , have different settings, plots and characters, there are many things that are similar or have similar parts that you could compare, such as the Motif, tone , and theme. Two stories that I will compare for you is “The Necklace” by Guy de Maupassant and “The Chrysanthemums” by John Steinbeck. For some reason Madame Forestier does not tell Mathilde that the necklace is fake, perhaps because she want her to think that she really is wealthy. But really Mathilde is already so envious of Madame Forestier that she wouldn’t think less of her. That’s why she doesn’t doubt if the necklace its real or not. She expects diamonds so diamonds is what she perceives. The diamond necklace always makes her feel like a diamond, beautiful and pure. The point that the necklace is a lie is the reason of all this lead to Mathilde future. These symbols connect to each other because Elisa and Mathilde both let this one object define them to who they are, when they don’t have to. They are bond to them because they let them self are. When really if they were to let themselves be above that you would see their true forms, beautiful, strong, intelligent women that is very independent.
Now I will talk about the themes and how they are similar in the stories. The theme in the stories is both appearances. For instance in “The Necklace” Mathilde’s is not rich or in any type of social ranking in society. Mathilde makes herself think that her beauty and charm should be that of a wealthy class. She does everything in her power to make her life appear different from how it actually is. When she gets the invitation to the party she is at first sad and then happy because now she feels for one night her appearance will match the life style she wants. As she is at the party she is prettier than the others woman there and all the men glance at her as she dances throughout the night. For the few hours the party last, she feels the life that she has always wanted. All this from one invitation, a dress, and necklace. Truth is that her appearance...
