The Meaning of Maturity

Being a mature student does not mean being an old timer. Maturity is not measured by the number of years a person had lived. Instead, the yard-stick of maturity is marked by the qualities of self-denial, determination, and dependability.
Self-denial is an important quality in the mature student because it proves that the student is able to take control and make decisions that are best for him regardless of whatever situation he is in. In addition, self-denial shows as self-control. Self-control is important for students because the students who have self-control are students who know how to organize their time. Determination is another characteristic of mature student because it is important for a student to have an aim and target when doing something and never give up. Determination also shows the passion of the student to pursuit a goal in their lives. For example, determination is the student having homework or important project to finish at school but their family plant to go on a family vacation; however, he or she will stay home to finish that project. Furthermore, determination is student who never give up on anything and try and try to achieve their goal. For example, a student took class in summer in Long Beach City College because school didn’t have good teacher to teach at Long Beach City College in summer so he or she had a really hard time with his or her teacher. But he had never gave up, he or she decided to study more at home and at library to fill up the material was lost in class when the teacher didn’t cover in class. And finally, he or she still got a good grade at the end of semester.
Although self-denial and determination are both vital, probably the most important measure of maturity is dependability. The mature student is student who know how to work and get it done does matter what it take and sometime they need to think about their back up plane when their first plane didn’t turn our right. For example, student who going to college, and he or she want to be a electrical engineering because of economics are going down and for the record too many engineering can’t find a job so he or she is think about double major for backup plan. The student who has dependability is also the one who can take a challenge and do something difficult than other.
For the conclusion, meaning of maturity for student is not student who can look like adult from the outside, cloths, hair and shape…for example. The student who has more self-denial, self-control, determination, and dependability on them is also proving of how mature of they are.
