The History Of Technology Essay

1428 words - 6 pages

Technology has had a huge impact on the universe ever since the first tools were created. Everything that has been discovered or invented in the technological aspect has revolutionized rapidly to create the technology we have today. Every invention has come from the basic idea of another piece of technology to improve or create something so much better than before. There are six main categories of technology: transportation, science and math, construction, manufacture, communication and other technologies.
The first category of technology is transportation. The Steam Engine was invented by Thomas Torricelli in 1698. The Hot Air Balloon was invented in 1783 by the Montgolfier brothers. ...view middle of the document...

The first basic calculator or so called “Adding Machine,” was invented in 1642 by Blaise Pascal. The Barometer was invented in 1643 by Evangelista Torricelli to measure pressure in the air. Benjamin Franklin invented the Lightning Rod in 1752 and figured out that lightning generated electricity. The first vaccination was invented in 1798 by Edward Jenner. The Stethoscope was invented in 1816 by Rene Laenne for doctors to use all over the world. The Arithmometer or advanced calculator was invented in 1820 by Charles Colmar. Dynamite was first created in 1866 by Alfred Nobel and caused a huge impact on construction technology also because they were now able to build through large mountains. The first Antibiotics and Penicillin were made in 1928 by Alexander Fleming. This was important because people could start fighting infections by taking pills that fought that specific infection. The Atomic Bomb was invented in 1945. The first man to walk on the moon was Neil Armstrong in 1969. America became the first country to have a successful landing on another planet. The Pocket Calculator was invented 2 years later in 1971 by Sharp Corporation.
Construction is another important category of technology. The Romans built the aqueducts in 50 C.E. They created the first system that provided running water to the city. Next came the Suspension Bridge in 1350. The first one was built in Peru. Leonardo da Vinci invented the first Ball Bearing in 1500. Two hundred and eight years later, the first mechanical (seed) sower was invented in 1708 by Jethro Tull. This impacted farmers greatly because they didn’t have to hand plow anymore unless they chose to. The first skyscraper was built in Chicago in 1883. It was 10 stories tall. All of these technological advancements in construction allowed us to have the buildings and architecture we have today.
Manufacturing is also one of the categories of technology. The movable type printing press was first invented in 1041 by Bisheng in China. This became very popular in china. One person did make a bigger impact though. The alphabetic, movable type printing press was invented in 1450 by Johaan Gutenberg. This was revolutionary because people could print large books instead of copying them word for word by hand. Take the Bible as an example. People were hand writing this book every day just to produce a copy. Then Gutenberg’s new technology allowed them to just copy the books instead of write them constantly. Another important invention was the cotton gin 1793 by Eli Whitney. This allowed mass production of cotton at a faster pace than before because now they didn’t have to work all of it by hand; they had a machine to do the work for them. All of these manufacturing inventions are important because they showed us mass production, simple ways to carry out tasks, and shorter time periods to get things produced.
Communication is, in my opinion, the most important aspect of technology. Without it, we...
