The novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is a very well known story in American literature. Some people like to say that this is a story about friendships and relationships. The main character in the story is a handsome young man by the name of Jay Gatsby. Through out Gatsby's entire life he has practically been in love with a young women by the name of Daisy, but they were unable to be married. Gatsby is a very popular man who is always throwing parties with lots of people and with lots of action. With Daisy marrying Tom she is given a good last name and that will also give her a good reputation. Life in the early 1900's is all about reputations and also in the earlier years of the century there was a lot of stereotyping, now with her marrying Tom she will be stereotyped into the good class. Daisy also takes advantage of Tom by bossing him around and by just demanding favors from him. "Make us a cold drink," cried Daisy (Fitzgerald, 122). The relationship between Daisy and her husband could definitely use some work. The first thing to help out there marriage is Tom could stop cheating behind Daisy's back with Myrtle Wilson and they should both start being honest with each other. This is not one of the better relationships that Daisy has even though they are husband and wife. The final major relationship in the novel was with Jay Gatsby, better known as just Gatsby. Daisy and Gatsby have a large history that dates back for years, before Gatsby had his money. A while back Daisy and Gatsby fell in love and were made for each other but when it came time for Gatsby to ask Daisy to marry him she told him that rich girls don't marry poor boys.
