The Four Functions of Management
Despite the changes required in managing a business in today’s economy and with major technological advances, management has four functions that will not change. The four functions are planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. These functions are vital to the success of any organization and, as a manager, they are vital to me in my organization as well.

In my organization, we have to be flexible because of the change in our supplies and sales depending on the time of year. We have an extensive training program for our employees and evaluate them to see which team to place them on to make them and the company more successful. Managers are responsible the communication between employees and departments to eliminate any issues from arising. Without good organization, any business would fail to be successful.
The third function of management is leading and in my opinion, this is the most critical function of management. Today, and in the future, managers must be good at mobilizing people to contribute their ideas- to use their brains in ways never needed or dreamed of in the past  (Bateman & Snell, 2009). Managers have to find different ways to empower people and motivate them to achieve their goals, as well as the company’s goals. Being a manager, this is one of the hardest tasks each day I go to work. I have to try to motivate people to want the company’s success to be a part of their work day, each and every day. We are in a highly competitive business, and without accomplishing our goals, we will never meet the customer’s needs. There is no business that will be successful without a strong and motivated employee base and that is the direct reflection of their manager.
