Many people around the world have been traumatized by the effects of terrorism.
Terrorism can cause many different emotions and cause people to do many things.
Some people go to church and pray with friends and family. Others want to be
alone because they have lost loved ones. Many people just sit in disbelief when they
see a terrorist attack, whether it be on tv or right next to them. Explaining what he thinks
about the reaction in the United States against terrorism, Anup Shah said, “It was with
disbelief and shock that people around the world saw footage of the terrorist attack in the
U.S...”(Shah). Terrorism is horrific and must be stopped ...view middle of the document...
C. Passengers and crew battled the
hijackers for control of the fourth jet, and it crashed into a field near
Shanksville, Pennsylvania[->0], short of reaching the hijackers' intended target
in Washington, D.C. (Kerner).
This was a extremely courageous act by those men and the United States thanks them
for their bravery. But sadly the three other planes did hit their intended mark and caused
a great deal of damage to the United States. According to John Lumpkin, “On Sept. 11,
2001, nineteen people, using knives and boxcutters, hijacked four transcontinental
airline flights and flew them toward America's financial and political capitals of New York
and Washington.”(Lumpkin). This was a huge blow to the United States and everyone
was in shock. The terrorists hit some massively populated areas and killed thousands of
people. The people of the United States became more connected than ever in that
moment and people from around the U.S. came to help with this tragic event that had
happened. This traumatizing event showed how we, the United States, could come
together and help one another more than anyone.
Next, is the outcome of this horrendous attack against the United States.
Thousands of people lost their lives to this terrorist attack. When the planes hit the
World Trade Center, everyone around the U.S. was in a disbelief that this had
happened. Then shortly after, one plane hit the Pentagon and killed more. This was a
tragic day for the United States. According to James Freeman, “On September 11, 2001,
or “9/11,” a series of terrorist attacks on the United States killed approximately 3,000
people. On a sunny Tuesday morning four commercial airplanes were hijacked and
used as flying bombs to destroy prominent symbols of American economic and political
power.” (Freeman). The outcome of deaths from this incident was immense. Many of
the deaths were caused by the two planes that hit the World Trade Center. Meg Greene
writes, “The terrorists who hijacked the two airplanes that crashed into the towers were
ultimately responsible for the deaths of approximately 2,800 people.” (Greene 26) .
The moment these planes hit the buildings will never be forgotten by the American
people. After the crashing of the planes, the buildings fell and left debris everywhere. It
was hard to see and breathe in the area. But still many people came to help and they
they saved many people from under the debris. But many people got sick by doing this
and the economic toll was immense.
Now, the health and economic effects of 9-11 and how it hurt the United States.
Health after the planes hit was a big deal because people would breathe in the debris
that flew around and get sick. The air had become very thick and hard to breathe which
did not help either. New York's Presbyterian Hospital says, “Thousands of workers who
