There has been an increased rate of school dropouts due to teen pregnancy. The effect of dropping out of school is lack of education and training. Lack of educated teens leads to reduced workforce labor because majority of them will grow up and become illiterate adults. Illiteracy is considered to be a serious problem identified by the civil society. The lack of education results in reduced remuneration or failure to get jobs resulting in poverty. About 35% of pregnant teenagers do not continue with schooling. This is because the teen mothers have to care for their young babies, and they are also ashamed to resume their studies as the other students tend to abuse and insult the teen mothers.
Early pregnancy resulting in dropping out of school, deprives the teenagers the opportunity of getting the necessary skills and education, which ensure they get rewarding and stable jobs. The teenagers who dropped out of school do not get a regular income source because they lack the skills required for the available positions. The lack of these skills makes it very difficult for them to get jobs. Their failure to secure jobs leads the teenage mothers to become dependent on the public to support them financially.
Lack of sex education results in teenage pregnancy. Teens that are taught about sex early are more informed, and they do not engage in sexual activities. These teens do not engage in unprotected sex and this result in reduced case of teen pregnancy. Parents who feel uncomfortable to discuss sex with their children leads to teenagers engaging in early sexual activities which result in pregnancy, because they did not use any protection.
