Question: What’s your take on technology?
While I do believe that technology has many advantages for society, there are some drawbacks that I think are overlooked. With advancements in the workplace, it makes jobs easier, more efficient, and even more accurate. However, those same improvements have also been the cause of down-sizing in many big companies especially ones in the manufacturing industry where a lot of the factory work is now automated using robots and conveyor belts. Even still, technology allows people to be more connected with one another. It used to be that families with loved ones overseas would not be able to talk to one another for days, weeks, or maybe even months at a time. However, with web-cams ...view middle of the document...
It’s also helped a lot of people cut down on paper, adding to its list of pros, the idea that it can be environmentally friendly as well.
The major issues that have arisen from technology, though, are the fact that there can be security hacks and personal information that is not protected. Cyber crimes are often really hard to trace, track, and convict, leading to a whole new arena of law and justice that must evolve with the time. In addition, there are negative effects for children and teens with the rise of cyber bullying. It’s often harder and possibly worse than real-life bullying because it can go unnoticed for a long time unless the person receiving the attacks speaks up. Like cyber crimes, it’s hard to scan for and find because there’s often rules and laws in place protecting people’s privacy so constant police scanning of these things may be an invasion of that very privacy. Technology can also have some negative health issues like for people who have to work on the computer all day long who experience eye strain and maybe even Carpel Tunnel Syndrome from typing too much.
Since technological advancements often happen way faster than people can keep track of it, it sometimes gets away from us, making it hard to put rules, laws, safety protocols or other types or regulations in place to protect people from the negative effects it may have. If there’s ever going to be handle on the situation, there should be some group or force put into place that can oversee all of it and see what resources are necessary to control it. Then, when people are able to be properly educated about technology and the right way to use it, then we’ll be able to enjoy all of its positive effects.
