Managing Motivation in a difficult economy

6. Employees age.
a. having a significant variation on number of stores in each program (27 up to 85) does not show a fair comparison although it is support with the conclusion that Program #5 is the best. Being a majority does not always means it is right.
b. leaving the decisions for managers to choose which program to use shows bias and this will be reflected on the results. The main idea of having more than one program is to create diversity inputs to have diversity results, by letting the managers choose the programs it empowers them and make them personally involved in the goal setting.
c. the advantage would be removing managers biasness and having more independent inputs in the study which will shows in a more fair results.
In managing a retail business with high contact with customers it is very important to have a diversified back ground off employees with different demographics ( age, gender etc…) to match the nature if the diversified background of the customers.
Having a more experienced workforce is very helpful due to the characteristic of the experienced work force which is more knowledge, wisdom, ability to handle different situations, more loyal and having lower level of absentees.
The program may work better if we don’t have a severe poor economic conditions because we might have a larger number of employees with different views for brainstorming sessions, and will have more available time for workers to meet instead of squeezed time because of limited number of employees.
