The family unit is a basic source for strength to people around the world. Although more individuals are living alone today than ever before, many adults are beginning to see the true benefits of remaining within the power of numbers. The next several paragraphs will discuss the positive points of family life through encouragement, compassion, understanding and reliability.
By and large, the biggest advantage of a family is availability of emotional support. When life is overwhelming, loved ones can help carry the burden of everyday problems, in order to give strength to face the challenges of tomorrow. In fact, according to the Allina Health System Foundation (1999), “In strong families, members can rely on each other… for a sympathetic ear, or just when they need to know someone cares” (¶ 10). People who are recognized for their achievements generally perform better in their lives than individuals do without such support or reception, as can be found within a family unit.
Similarly, empathy proves understanding and unity; thus, it is important to avoid lonely feelings. In part, the main reason to stay away from loneliness is the possibility of falling into depression, which can lead to issues that are more serious. Like preventive medicine, a family unit provides a sense of belonging to fight sensations of neglect and give an impression of personal safety to all of its members. Simultaneously, it bands individuals together for a common cause, which exponentially increases the odds of success in their endeavors.
All of these things, however, are of no consequence without consistency, for it allows constant support when it is needed most. For example, family members that live within short distances from one another are able to bring a spare tire, bail money, or give a ride in emergencies. Moreover, it offers security through dependability, loyalty and trust. Since relatives generally have a sense of duty or allegiance to other members of the clan, they may be relied upon to confidently defend or care for each other when friends have conveniently gone.
In support of these reasons, the family unit is the basis for personal power and support throughout humanity. Relatives assist with everyday life by means of compassion, empathy and reliability, which are the main ingredients towards success of the group. Specifically, members within a family have a connection that promotes the development of self-image, respect through recognition. As a deterrent to disparity, family life offers camaraderie while associating individuals with similar goals of achievement. However, the key element of a family’s survival is dependability; for all members must support its ideals in order to be substantially effective.
