Steele Enterprises Case Study
553 X DG Organizational Development
1. I can see that the problems Steele Enterprises Company continues to face is that the teams in the company do not get along well and some of them even keep watching for opportunity to retaliate at each other especially Richard Leeman and Donna Olson. They are top chief executives and if they keep fighting, rocking the boat, it would bring confusion and conflict to the company and the company will not hit success easily without cooperation of the teams in it. Brown noted, “The organization requires cooperation ...view middle of the document...
What happens in the sales department has some effect on the manufacturing group” (Kotter, 1996. P. 134). Therefore, we leaders must come to value the interdependence as well and make sure what we do is a win/win situation to bring happiness and good progress to the company.
1. I wonder why Gene Robertson, the Public relations Director Western Area Regional Office has not been bothered while the lower top executives of him have been constantly fighting for months. In my own opinion, I think that Gene must approach them and take lead to find out what is the main cause of the problem that has been triggering them to fight in the company. Gene Robertson must help them to remove the problem in the company before the problem between Richard Leeman and Donna Olson becomes so big enough that it might be able to destroy the company. They are teams in the company and they are to complement each other and bring prosperity and keep the company alive. Brown said, “Teams are becoming a way of life in organizations” (Brown, 2011. P. 261). The company must not have top executives that keep arguing and fighting all the times. Gene Robertson must approach them to make sure they bring life to the company rather than killing it.
2. I think that from now on Gene Robertson has to make sure to give Richard Leeman and Donna Olson job descriptions. I am pretty sure that Richard Leeman and Donna Olson do not fully understand their job description that is why it seems like Richard Leeman is encroaching to Donna Olson’s job responsibility that is why Donna gets so mad at him. Donna is also needs to be sharpened to budget things in more understandable way, in closer budget so that others will not get confused what she has been doing. Sometimes if you do something that it does not make sense to others and if they try to help you, but their help agitates you more than you appreciate them. I see that Richard Leeman and Donna Olson are in a complex situation if nobody helps them to clearly manage their job description and their responsibility, they will not be able to work effectively. Brown clarified complex situation this way, “Complex situations encompass most of a group’s work. There is a need to share information at a level that allows work to be accomplished, because the members cannot do the task on their own” (Brown, 2011. P. 266). Sometimes employees can get blinded and just need some help to open their eyes or to remind them and they will turn back to the right track of their responsibility. I am sure that if Gene approach them and gently and clearly show them what each job description is there would be no problem anymore.
1. Gene is not a good leader although he has heard that Richard and Donna have been fighting seven times in the past. He keeps quiet and never approaches them to stop the problem. Gene even hides the problem and he does not let Alfred Gamble, the top manager know what has been going on with their lower top...
