Some people think that a university professor should focus time in doing research; while other think that the main role of a professor is to educate students in a university.
Nowadays, when taking about the issue on whether university professors should focus time on doing research or educating students, someone claims that the latter should be the main role for a university professor. Nevertheless, as far as I am concerned, university professors should spend more time on doing research because it could not only benefit students and universities, but also the whole society.

To begin with, if a university professor focuses more time on doing research, the students could gain more benefits. As the professors have many projects, there is no doubt that the students could also get many opportunities to take part in the research, which enables them ...view middle of the document...

What's more,if the professors in university focus on doing research, they can bring more reputations to their universities. By doing the research, professors could have more opportunities to make breakthroughs and achievements, which makes the universities obtain more honors. For example, most of the professors in Peking University in China have their own projects and devote themselves to doing research. As a result, they have made many remarkable achievements through the research, thus winning more repetitions for their university. With so many qualified professors and remarkable breakthroughs, Peking University has become one of the most famous universities in the world. Thus focusing on doing research could help the professors attract more excellent students to their universities.

Last but not the least, the whole society will also get more benefits if the professors devote themselves to doing research in the universities. With enough professional knowledge, the professors in universities have better abilities to make some cutting-edge achievement or discoveries to solve various problems in our society. According to a survey conducted by the Daily News, more than 43 percent of the universities have cooperated with the large companies to develop the cutting-edge projects or research. There is no doubt that most of these projects are undertaken by the professors in the universities. All these inventions inevitably have great effects on promoting the progress of our society. While a professor who simply focuses on teaching students could make little contributions to such issues. Therefore, a professor in the university should spend more time on their projects in order to benefit the society.

In conclusion, I strongly support the idea that compared with educating students, professors in the universities should devote themselves to doing research due to the advantages it has brought to not only the students, but also the universities and the whole society.
