One of the most dramatic impacts on a childs development is the socialization process. The significant forces of socialization are family, school, peers, mass media, work, and religion. The impact of these forces are different for each person depending on their circumstances and social class. The absence of socialization can have life altering consequences.

Social interaction refers to the ways in which people respond to one another. The college students that participated in Zimbardo's mock prison experiment assumed the patterns of social interaction expected of guards and prisoners. Social structure is defined as the way a society is organized into predictable relationships. The mock guards had total control over the mock students who reacted as somone would who was in a real prison therefore adjusting to a new social structure when they entered the mock prison.
