Unemployment and its Social Impact
Introducing Sociology IP 1
This paper is going to explain the many issues with unemployment and its social impact. Being unemployed is hard on very many people and this paper will explain the many reason things tend to happen because someone is unemployed.
Unemployment is hard on everyone in today’s society. When many people are unemployed crimes start to rise because many people feel that robbing people and stealing food from stores is the only way they are able to survive and by doing this many people do not realize they are not the only ones being hurt by their actions. I am a full time college student who is unemployed and this is very hard for me especially being a young lady who wants things. Luckily I have wonderful parents who are willing to help me as long as I continue to do the right thing and stay in school. Being unemployed has a major impact on the society. My family is one of those affected. We own our own auto repair shop and even though we as a family are not unemployed it still affects us because nobody can get the repair needed for their car done if they have no money. This causes stress on us because we have bills just like everyone else. The impact of being unemployed cause’s people to loose their homes because they are unable to pay their mortgages and this tends to leave many people out on the street.
Unemployment also has a major effect on the economy. Increased applications for unemployment benefits directly reflect the loss in the number of jobs available to workers. The actual cost of paying unemployment benefits to the unemployed is actually very small compared with other government spending (Bland, 1999). Paying unemployment benefits to those who need it, actually benefits the country's economy, because it prevents jobless individuals and their families, to overwhelm other government programs such as welfare (Wright, 2012). Unemployment does not affect unemployed it affects people they do not know as well. There are many factors that contribute to unemployment effects on communities, ones social and economic factors.
Everyone’s personal success and failures are not only tied to themselves. In some way another person’s success and failures will either benefit you or bring you down as well. The best thing to do during this time is to try and find a unique way to make money. Committing crimes only makes things worse for everyone. For example the occupy protestors here in California are protesting being of things such as unemployment but them destroying things only makes the state spend money to fix those things with money the state truly does not have.
