Violence is a social problem that increases over the years. Violence is not so much shown in magazines and books as it is on television and the media. This does not mean that violence on television is the only source for aggressive or violent behavior, but it is a significant contributor. For example, today in the news, two police officers were shot and killed; a U.S. Marshal was also wounded in St. Petersburg, Florida, during a gunfight with a suspect. It is apparent that the guy was a career criminal who felt that the police couldn’t solve whatever problem he had, therefore, he chose an alternative method, which was violence, thus adding to one of the major social problem in today’s society.
The media plays an important role in helping determining what is acceptable in society. This is why it is important for you to know what is going on in society whether it is good or bad. You need to know about story like the one above, so that you can try to protect yourself and family. The media can also help by curbing down the amount of violence that we are expose to. Understand we as adults are responsible for what we watch on television, but think about every time you watch the news; the majority of it is about all the social problems of the world, murder, robbery, poverty, etc. Although, we need to know what going on in the world and in society, how much is enough? How do we stop the violence?
Violence can never be totally eliminated, but there are some things that the government and we can do to prevent some of these senseless killings. For instance tougher gun laws for everyone, make it a felony for anyone to sell, steal, or give a weapon to anyone illegally. We know this will not completely eliminate the problem but it will make people think and help to hold someone accountable...
