Over time, our lives are being consumed with Social networking. Is Social networking creating a safe environment or creating chaos? Some of the social networking sites have caused people to lose their identity, predators have lured children away from home, but yet some people have reunited with friends and family, and are able to communicate with them on a daily bases. Networking sites like YouTube has created a marketing environment as well as education. Social network sites do not scan messages for different virus therefore all types of malicious software can attach themselves to a computer. Identity theft is a growing problem and many Facebook users are not aware that they are sharing private information due to lack of knowledge of how to set privacy settings.
In 2011, NYPD added a tracking unit on Twitter and have tracked down on criminals that brag about their crimes online. People are sharing and posting all sorts of activity on media sites like YouTube. These videos are helping law enforcement agencies to solve crimes quicker. Anthony Martino, director of the Northeast Cyber Forensics Center at Utica College stated “Since 2010 we've done over 50 arrests directly related to using Facebook and social media to identify people that we had no information on. Your ability to broadcast live your experience with something and include pictures and video of it is a total new innovation in our society and the same way that it benefits the average user it also benefits law enforcement investigations (www.wktv.com/news)."
LinkedIn social media site has over 2.6 million Company pages. This social media sites is used by job seekers and recruiters.
