He was praying for their eyes to be enlightened, for the words of God to be illuminated, for the words in the bible to light up and have an understanding of the gospel through the Holy Spirit. 1 Thessalonians 5
19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not despise prophecies.

We are not to grieve the Holy Spirit and we are not to quench the Spirit. That is the true reverence for God, his mission to us is to look to the son because this is the only way to him, but one can’t look to the son without the Spirit to help guild them into one harmonies truth.
