Reporting Practices and Ethics

Any health care worker must make ethical decisions on a daily basis. Acquiring the right tools to help make better ethical decisions may include ethics committees and up-to-date policies and procedures. Companies such as Enron have had a difficult time making these ethical decisions and some within the company have had to pay a hefty price. Adopting a code of ethics and communicating these ethics are a key resource for any company. An internal audit system is another way to help combat fraudulent behavior.

The FASAB handbook is the best resource for these standards (FASAB. 2011). This handbook is designed to meet the needs of the users on authoritative reference to concepts, interpretations, standards, technical releases, technical bulletins, and other issuances.
Practice honesty and maintain personal integrity is a sample of the Health Care Financial Management Association Code of Ethics. Avoiding conflicts of interest and striving for clear and fair production of financial information is another statement made by the association. Because stakeholders usually rely on financial information, it is imperative that any organization utilize the code of ethics. Without proper or reliable financial information, some decisions could be improperly made.
Examples of Ethical and Financial Standards
The nonethical conduct is unfortunately well documented. From Martha Stewart to Enron, bad ethical behavior is apparently everywhere. A group of future Harvard Business graduates will take an oath to behave more ethically. This voluntary oath, which is led by student, basically states that the students will act in a responsible and ethical manner. It also states that the student s will not act in ways to advance his or her “own ambitions” (Wayne. 2009). At Colombia Business School, an honor code pledge is not voluntary (Wayne.2009). These actions should bode well for the future graduates of these fine business school. Not only will the future employees benefit but also so will the consumer. By setting higher ethical standards, these pledges and oaths are a good sign that this great nation is gaining a better moral compass.
