Reflection On My Role As Student And Future Healthcare Practitioner.
The aim of this essay is to reflect on my role as a future health care practitioner and this I will be carrying out by using the Rolfe’s reflective MODEL. According to Wikipedia (Rolfe, 2001) stated that through the Rolfe reflective model, ‘’..a description of the situation is given which then leads into the scrutiny of the situation and the construction of knowledge that has been learnt through the experience.”

Although it was challenging but it was quite interesting to be able to rate myself truthfully as this will help in my further development.
In the past, the easiest way for me to carry out my researches and sorting for information /materials was on the internet through Google search engine and my practical experiences were gathered at work. This I found out was not the most authentic way of carrying out researches when I started my studies at the university. I was also able to understand that there were other methods that are more appropriate in carrying out researches which were completely new to me for example using the library Summon, the databases such as the CINAHL, NHS Evidence website.
Hall, C. and Ritchie, D. (2009), support the view of the RCN (2003) which identified some reasons for defining nursing and one of it was to “identify areas where research is needed to strengthen the knowledge base of nursing”. Therefore without a good established knowledge base of the nursing career the possibilities for errors cannot be over looked and this can only be avoided by laying a good foundation.
Elis.P.(2010) refer to research methodology “as the blueprint for action upon which an enquiry is based”. In my evaluation of reading and research skills I scored myself 3 on a scale of 1 to 5 and this was based on finding the right information’s, method used to carry out research, scanning and reading, recording accurately, critical evaluation of works both on the internet and in the library . This I found was not the only methods that can be used and that there are other methods which I was not familiar with.
The challenges were quite enormous at the beginning of my studies, as it was difficult initially especially using the Boolean System, subject heading and free text search which I was never familiar with, but when I implemented them correctly, I found it made my work easier. The search module course approaches and guidelines setup By the University also helped tremendously and was also easy to apply.
Communication has always been a major problem between people irrespective of age gender or colour. When information is transmitted in a manner that is unclear, it can be mis-interpreted and might be misconstrued. Hamilton, S.J. and Martin, D.J. (2007) uses the word “framework” to qualify communication and he explained it to mean openness, flexibility and versatility which he concluded are the essential qualities of an effective nurse and also effective communicator. The ability to actively listen to people, ask questions, talking confidently and make constructive contributions are all part of good communication process and when this is lacking, dispersing duties becomes difficult as it brings about a barrier. In this aspect I rated myself 4, based on my active involvement in group discussions and presentation delivered in my class at my present course of study and in the pass at work. I have kept communication very clear and jargon free by...
