What pleasure do you get from watching a group of people show you their so-called real lives that are actually completely fake and exaggerated? In recent years, TV channels have discovered that “reality” shows are extremely profitable, resulting in a tidal wave of these shows. Some reality shows become very popular and are embedded into our culture. However, this does not mean that they good for society. Can you honestly say that after watching any of these shows that you have learnt something truly important?
What is the message of these shows? Educational, witty and stimulating. None of these words can be used to describe this type of television. Not only do these shows reflect ...view middle of the document...

But now girls as young as 13 seem to think it’s a good look.
These shows send a bad message. The big problem is that they’re popular. Popularity should not be the ultimate test of what is permissible. Public hangings used to be popular, that does not mean that they were necessarily a good thing. These shows exploit the vulnerable such as insecure teenage girls. They have actually been condemned by the Mental Health Foundation for doing so. They show aspects of life that people prefer not to experience or can’t experience. People watch sex appeal, flirtation, jealously, competition, conflict, intoxication, narcissism, sex, the list can go on and on. Reality TV is not real life in any way, according to research, even though people realise these over the top reactions to situations are fake, the popularity of these shows is making it more likely for us to react in this way to real situations in life. The author Sharon Jayson wrote that explicit reality shows can in fact have a negative influence on its audience, therefore causing certain emotions to become overly dramatic.
