Leadership is the process of influencing other to understand and agree about what needs to be done and how do it, and the process of facilitating individual and collective efforts to accomplish shared objectives (Yukl, 2006). Leadership is an interactive dialogue that draws employees toward being at ease with the language of special accountability and commitment. It will also address some strengths and weaknesses as far as leadership style is concerned.
Strengths are variable traits that allow one to be successful. Strengths encompass many characteristics that allow one to be an effective leader. After being assessed several inventories on leadership this writer concluded the different types of leadership and is able to define what leadership styles are appropriate. The inventory what is my leadership style this writer assessed high on this inventory. It included my concern for people and my concern for task. This writer believes in hard work and completing the job at hand. This writer approach when it comes to other is very altruistic believing that everyone should benefit. This is a true strength because being a effective leader is making sure that each employee is successful and that no one is left behind. Being an effective leader includes finding alternative ways to find success in each employee. Having a general concern for the welfare of other allows this writer to be genuine in the approach of helping others. An additional strength of this writer is having a concern for the task, this writers has a quality of the concern to get the job done. Scoring high on these inventories simply solidify the fact of being a leader, one must have a general concern for people and completing the assigned task Some characteristic of a leader includes being able to have confidence in himself and being able to influence behavior, skills, and expertise.
The characteristics of weakness is an immoderate fondness and after being assessed these inventories this writer weakness included how good am I at discipline and do I trust others. These inventories presented weakness due to the fact this writer has never lead a team of individuals. However with these weaknesses are able to turn into strengthens has time progresses. One way to modify these weaknesses is to indorse the traits of this writer. This approach emphasizes leader’s attributes such as personality, motives, values, and skills (Yukl, 2006). This approach is effective with the thought of some people being natural leaders and having an innate foresight of leading. As a effective leader this writer will change weakness and transform them into strengths with proper training.
Leader versus Follower- Centered Theory deals with the leader being the strongest in the theory it also identifies traits, skills, or behaviors that contribute to the effectiveness of the leader (Yukl, 2006). These theories are good but they have a greater center of attention on the leader characteristics rather that the follower. There are pros and cons when it comes to this theory some pros include focusing on the management to make the team better. However, it excludes the team as a whole. This theory is able to pinpoint the traits of a leader but it does not focus on the follower. This form of theory is not that useful because it focus on the leader or the follower. There...
