The research tells us that the three main approaches applied to the social and behavioral sciences as it relates to crime are human behavioral ecology, evolutionary psychology, and gene-culture co-evolution theory. The human behavioral sciences suggests that certain biological, psychological, and social interactions amongst humans must be taken into consideration when attempting to address a persons criminal behavior. Researchers must understand exactly why certain individuals commit crimes. This article aims to pinpoint an explanation for the crimes being committed and a way minimize the social, and psychological consequences of the crime.
This article is limited because it addresses a problem but does not come up with a definitive solution. The article points out the advantages of evolutionary behavioral approaches for the crime of rape but not any others. Furthermore, it points out that in a recent analysis of 19 introductory textbooks in criminology and criminological theory published after 2000, almost half make no mention to the evolution theory or evolutionary psychology.
