Dear Prof Kanesan
Those 3 elements can be improved concurrently by the following example of study case, base on personal experience:
The owner just received a key for a newly built luxury condo. His intention is to rent the unit out for minimum 5 years investment, and plan to sell the unit off after the log-in period from the bank, escape from paying Property Gain Tax of 30% and to rip the benefit of profit margin. Upon receiving the key, he initiated a project to renovate and refurnish the condo so that it's comfort enough to rent out at the rate desire. In this case, he applies the concept of Triple Constraints. He set the timeline for 2 months to ...view middle of the document...
Conclusion: time has been reduced from two to a month timeline, scope and cost have reduced as the owner only purchased what is required by the tenant. All the 3 elements were done concurrently (simultaneously) in within a month time. With some skills of project management, the owner managed to complete the project successfully.
Study case from Steven Chian
Addressing a project triangle can be so varied that we need to dissect the project in term of complexities, A) Simple task...for example like renovating a house b) Medium Task for example building residential / commercial low rise buildings C) Complex task like building Highrise/complexes or petroleum / palm oil refineries with a multi disciplinary work in civil ,structural ,mechanical ,electrical and instrumentation and controls..The project management teams we need could range from a simple line organisation to complex matrix organisation to handle the works..However no matter how simple or complex the task is, the project triangle still reign. As an illustration to explain how this project triangle concept works, we will use a case study of simple task like renovation of house ..a renovation would include1) to extend the backyard with double stories construction 2) the front facade to extend forward with double stories construction 3) relocate toilet 4) architectural finishes 5) All mechanical and electrical works..We will define the scope and the specifications of works clearly with the architectural/structural and both the mechanical and electrical engineering plans and design properly drawn out. Otherwise whenever a dispute arises ,it can always fall back on the drawings.. With scope of works and the specifications , the project manager is able to take off Bill and quantity and offer a firm quotation/bid with a Time lead to complete the project.. Assuming in this case 1) Price quoted is Rm250,000.00 and the Completion period with vacant possession is six(6) months..from the of site possession. The project manager will work out his human resources to carry out the as follows:!) One supervisor2)One team of subcontract workers...
