What are probiotics?
• Probiotics: “live microorganisms that, when administered in adequate amounts, confer a health benefit on the host.” When used in animal feed, the FDA refers to them as “direct fed microbial” and when used for human drugs, are referred to as “live biotherapeutics.” Can be taken orally by capsules, in food, or in powders. Sometimes referred to as “complementary” or “alternative” medicine. Available in supermarkets, pharmacies and health food stores.

• It’s important to the world because it could help people who have been unable to find positive results from conventional drugs and using probiotics could possibly improve our overall health. With more benefits than risks, promoting these “friendly” bacteria can make a good difference. Probiotic means “for life” so might as well have the good bacteria for life instead of the more harmful bacteria, right?
