Pengenalan
Jika seorang pakar bedah yang mempunyai kemahiran yang diiktiraf dunia, mengetuai sebilangan pembantu yang juga berpengalaman dalam membantu doktor, tidak akan mampu menghalang ajal yang kian hampir menyelubungi pesakit. Tekanan yang dialami pasukan itu lebih tinggi kerana melengahkan sesuatu prosedur pembedahan akan memberi kesan yang nyata iaitu kematian. Hal yang demikian sedemikian merupakan satu disiplin kelompok manusia yang menghargai masa. Satu saat pun tidak boleh dianggap sia-sia. Namun begitu, suasana tersebut tidak dapat kita lihat di kalangan masyarakat kita yang melengahkan yang penting dan mengutamakan keseronokan. Mengapa?

Oleh yang demikian, sesetengah golongan terutama yang muda bekerja sekeras-kerasnya dengan kerja lebih masa, mahupun kerja sampingan. Tuntasnya secara positif angan-angan mampu menyuruh manusia melangkaui had kebolehan mereka.
Namun begitu, keburukan angan-angan lebih nyata berbanding kebaikan. Tidak semua kita mempunyai kawalan mental dan emosi yang kukuh. Sebagai contoh, orang yang sentiasa berangan-angan memiliki sesuatu tetapi tidak meletakkan usaha dan ilmu dalam jalan tersebut. Banyak masa dibuang dengan mengelamun dan menggunakan jalan pintas seadanya. Timbulnya sikap melengah-lengahkan masa dengan berkhayal ‘alangkah baiknya kalau aku….’ sedangkan kewajipan belum ditunaikan.
Dari segi Islam seperti yang dinyatakan di dalam sabda Rasulullah berangan-angan atau melengah-lengah masa kerananya menjauhkan umat dari akhirat. Umat Islam akan mudah terleka dengan nikmat dunia sehingga melupakan bahawa Allah lah yang memiliki dan mencipta akan nikmat yang mereka lalaikan itu. Maka, Allah boleh mengambil bila-bila diinginiNya. Dari waktu gembira digantikan dengan tangisan kesedihan, waktu lapang digantikan dengan kesibukan, mahupun sihat digantikan dengan sakit yang menguji ketabahan sanubari.
Dikatakan harta punca penyakit kerana memilik banyak harta boleh ditimpa pelbagai penyakit dan juga terlalu miskin pun menyebabkan datangnya penyakit. Memiliki harta yang melimpah ruah atas kurniaNya adalah ujian bagaimana manusia beribadah melalui rezki itu. Orang yang ditimpa penyakit seperti tekanan darah tinggi, obesiti, strok dan gangguan emosi ialah ‘penyakit-penyakit orang kaya’ kerana manusia tersebut tidak menggunakan sebaiknya rezki dengan membayar Zakat, bersedekah menunaikan Haji dan kebajikan orang lain. Sebaliknya, ‘penyakit-penyakit orang miskin’ seperti kurang zat, malaria, diabetis dan kolestrol tinggi berpunca dari kurang usaha mencari rezki. Golongan ini hanya mengharapkan bantuan dari pihak berwajip menghulurkan makanan di mulut mereka. Kesimpulannya, memiliki atau tidak memiliki dunia adalah ujian untuk umat manusia, jadi janganlah kita begitu lalaikan dan menumpukan setiap masa kepada dunia.

Masalah masyarakat kini,
‘PROCRASTINATION’ atau MELENGAHKAN ialah satu penyakit psikologi yang dialami ketika individu itu mencapai tahap keselesaan. Melambat-lambatkan, meninggalkan, mementingkan sesuatu yang lain adalah sinonim perkataan melengahkan. Dalam bidang pengurusan, masa adalah kunci kejayaan. Kertas kerja ini membincangkan bagaimana satu penyakit dalam pengurusan masa yang kian serius.
Sikap sedemikian merupakan gejala yang kian membimbangkan di kalangan pekerja dan pelajar kita. Keburukan yang kita nampak dalam merebaknya penyakit ini seperti penurunan produktiviti, kerja-kerja yang menimbun, tekanan emosi di kalangan pelajar serta hasil yang tidak mencapai kualiti. Apakah puncanya?
Dari akar masalah ini ialah individu tersebut yang melengahkan kerja. Hal ini kerana kelalaian dengan sesuatu yang lebih seronok atau keyakinan individu...
