Animal Farm - Power Corrupts
“You only have power over people so long as you don't take everything away from them. But when you've robbed a man of everything, he's no longer in your power - he's free again” (Aleksander Solzhenitsyn). This made them less focused on treating the animals bad and the animals were just kind of there. They weren’t mistreated, but they weren’t treated well. For example, Snowball had thought of the idea to build a windmill. Napoleon did not like the idea and how all the animals began to agree more with Snowball because of his idea. During a meeting about the windmill Napoleon stood up very quietly and said, “ The windmill is nonsense and that nobody should vote for it” and promptly sat back down (Orwell 47). Then in an instance he ordered the new born dogs he was raising to chase Snowball off the farm. Snowball was gone and the power was left in Napoleon’s hands and no one else’s.
By the end of Animal Farm Napoleon had all the power which was very negative and basically devastated the community, known as Animal Farm. Once Snowball was off the farm Napoleon started to change everything. His taking over led to food shortages, hard work, and death. Napoleon had complete control over the farm, which corrupted the idea of Animalism and The Seven Commandments. For example, one of the commandments was “All animals are equal”. Napoleon and the pigs changed it to “ All animals are...
