The present paper is concerned with the quantitative correlation of descriptive and evaluative adjectives in attributive function and their role in the realisation of the category of evaluation in political discourse in present-day news in British national broadsheets.

Голованова указывает на то, что национальные качественные газеты увеличили свой тираж, в то время как тиражи всех массовых ("бульварных") газет Великобритании падают [2005: 13-14]. Необходимо также подчеркнуть, что в настоящее время Великобритания продолжает занимать одно из ведущих мест в мире по насыщенности прессой. При этом национальные или местные газеты читают трое из четырех англичан, а всего в стране издается 160 ежедневных газет и 1300 ежедневников [Соколов, Виноградова 2000]. Отбор материала для настоящего исследования осуществлялся в несколько этапов. На первом этапе происходил отбор материалов из разделов Front Page News и / или UK News (газета The Daily Telegraph); Front page, UK News, Politics (газета The Guardian), UK News, Politics (газета The Independent); Britain и / или Politics (газета The Times). На следующем этапе отобранные материалы группировались в соответствии с темой, которую они освещали. В рамках настоящего исследования мы рассматривали внутриполитический медиа-дискурс британских качественных газет о новом законопроекте об образовании. Вопрос о возможности совершенно нейтрального, чуждого оценочности использования языка пока ждёт своего решения. Некоторые исследователи полагают, что в процессе коммуникации "в некотором смысле нейтральное использование языка в принципе невозможно", поскольку многочисленные факторы (как, например, отбор частей обсуждаемой ситуации, последовательность введения в текст участников, экспликация отношения говорящего к передаваемой информации и т.д.) воздействуют на понимание речевого сообщения адресатом [Баранов и др. 2004: 5, 10].
