The use of the PlayStation Network is described in detail. Online gaming is an enormous part and objective of the PlayStation Network. Sony is not invincible; in fact the PlayStation Network was hacked more than once (in a short time span). On the flip side, now a days the network is more secure and the company is continuing to innovate the ways is presents its product and attracts future customers as well as keeps current ones intrigued.

The PlayStation Network

In order to fully comprehend how something works you must first understand its foundation. During this harvest of information we will examine the PlayStation Network (PSN). Its foundation is the PlayStation itself. So, let’s take a quick glance at the history of the PlayStation. Sony Computer Entertainment’s idea to innovate the gaming industry became reality Dec. 3rd 1994 in Japan. The PlayStation was released in the U.S in 1995 only to have instant success in the market. Its price, $299, was $100 less than the Sega Saturn (a highly popular gaming console at that time). That definitely contributed to its success. There were over 100,000 units pre sold when it launched. With that said you can clearly see that the PlayStation was (and still is) a popular product line today which is why I chose the PlayStation Network as my research topic (“History of the PlayStation").
Relation to DB Communications
With this being a database communications research paper you might be wondering how the PlayStation and its popularity relates to database communications. Don’t worry, I’m about to thoroughly explain it for you. There are many definitions to the phrase “database communications,” so let’s just take a look one: “the electronic transmission of information that has been encoded digitally” (“Data Communication”). In other words, database communications is basically just the act of communicating electronically, and this is exactly what todays PlayStation 3 allows us to do by utilizing one of its slightly recent, marvelous, value enhancing, product features, the PlayStation Network (PSN).
Features
There had been network adapters available a short time before the PlayStation Network was actually integrated into the PlayStation 3 console, but considering the wireless that was added as well made this integration one of the most effective ones of PlayStation’s history. The PlayStation 3 was released in 2006 which is of course also when users were introduced to the wireless capability. In the words of us.playstation.com the PlayStation Network “allows you to unlock the full potential of your PlayStation, experience high quality entertainment through free online multiplayer gaming, access to thousands of 3D and HD movies, and millions of songs, all while connecting with friends” (PlayStation®3). Other than allowing connection to fellow gamers and users in general, the PlayStation Network has numerous features that make it such an important integration. As previously mentioned, the PlayStation...
