Ethical relativism points of view are equally valid and can be defined as the belief that
nothing is impartially right or wrong as the meaning of right or wrong are contingent on the
current views of an individual a culture, or even a historical time period. Meaning that certain
characteristics are right due to fitting into that setting, while other characteristics are wrong
because of a cultural tradition. (Rosenstand, 2013).
The corrupt behaviors which were discussed in ...view middle of the document...
Even if the majority considered the corrupt behavior of Walmart was indeed acceptable,
this type of behavior would still be considered to be corrupt behavior. The type of corrupt
behavior Walmart has displayed is, regrettably, measured as norm. As businesses of many types
practice bad situations and cover it up with another transaction. It not only happens in the
professional world of business but also in the government. The reality of this behavior is even
taken into consideration a norm is appalling and in instances it makes this type of corrupt
behavior just about acceptable at the cost of Walmart doing business in another country. As
policies become ignored and the fine line connecting right and wrong and immoral verses moral
are taken into consideration all aspects of the allegations of Walmart become even more vague.
Whatever the circumstances of bribery that took place at Walmart, the management in fact traded
millions of dollars for permits and other favors and everyone now has allegations against them
that must be fully investigated with a determination leading to a major law suit. (Cassin, 2013).
In the American culture, the norm is often the majority rules. Majority rules means that
the culture generally have similar feelings or experiences about beliefs, values, and norms. In
spite of these factors of feelings, experiences and beliefs, there are a lot of subcultures in the
country of the United States and many other countries as well. All of the subcultures involved
have a great affect the majority rules norm. The subculture is known as a conflictual political
culture meaning that there is a division of people on decisions that leaders make due to the
disagreement with opposite beliefs and values. (Milton, 2013).
Applying the concepts of ethical relativism will not be as easy as it sounds but I would
suggest in order to prevent or limit the corruption of how Walmart used bribery as a source to get
what they needed done quicker so they could open and expand more stores. So applying the
concepts of ethical relativism would mean to apply concepts of change on how other people
think when they fear what would happen to them if they reported the reality of what Walmart
was becoming involved with. In this economy, most people fear the loss of their job, or being in
a position of harassment by they company so they just go along with what is happening. This is
the foremost important reason that enables many large organizations such as Walmart to be
involved with corrupt behavior and allow all...
