Benefits of the Affordable Care Act
In this essay I will be discussing the benefits of the new affordable care act and how it has impacted as well as my local community. Firstly, the affordable care act allows people who did not have access to insurance or be able to afford the insurance through their employer to get insurance coverage at a reasonable cost. Second, the affordable care act does not allow for insurance companies to not pay a claim based on it being a pre-existing condition which was the case prior to the affordable care act being passed. The affordable care act also removed some of the loop holes that were previously used by the insurance company to deny claims or the amount that the insurance companies had to pay to claims. For instance the affordable care act prohibits insurance companies from canceling your insurance because you get sick, limits the insurance companies’ ability to raise your insurance rates and removes the yearly and lifetime dollar limits on coverage. The affordable care also allows young adults up to the age of twenty six to stay on their parents insurance. A few of the additional benefits that the affordable care act covers are breast feeding equipment, birth control, mental health and substance abuse services. So prior to the affordable care act insurance companies could deny claim regarding women’s health such as birth control or any claim related to mental health and substance abuse.
With regards to women’s health the affordable care act protects women’s health services so that the insurer cannot deny claims or coverage that a women would need. This is extremely important to me as I have two young daughters and I know it’s
