In this paper, I will discuss how Abraham Maslow theory, hierarachy of needs has influenced my understanding of personalities and behaviors of people in society and in the work place. I will also discuss how this theory has influenced my role in society and din the work place, along with my interactions with others.

While serving as chairman of the psychological department at Brandeis, he met Kurt Goldstein, who had originated the idea of self-actualization in his famous book, The Organism (Boeree, 2006). This is when Maslow began his crusade of a humanistic psychology (Boeree, 2006).

Maslow Theory Hierarchy of Needs
Abraham Maslow became a leader of the humanistic school of psychology that emerged in the 1950’s. One of the many interesting things Maslow noticed while he worked with monkeys early in his career was that certain needs took precedence over others, such as thirst over hunger, breathing over thirst, etc, hence the theory of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. Maslow’s hierarchy of needs laid out five broader layers, the physiological needs, safety and security needs, love and belonging needs, esteem needs, and self actualization needs (Boeree, 2006).
