The personal values I have differ, depending on the circumstances and/or issues I am confronted with. A value of mine is entrusting others to fulfill their obligations and keep their word. However, when I have important issues that must be completed, I tend to completed it myself to make sure the task is done. After taking the Williams Institute Ethics Assessment I found it to be very interesting. According to the Ethics Assessment I scored the highest in the areas of obligations and equity. This assessment has three components involved in ethical decision making: Awareness, Articulation and Application. For a person to make good ethical decisions they should have knowledge of all three components.
The first component in ethical decision making is awareness. This is when an issue is identified and it’s determined what choices and actions will be made. To express and state issues is articulation, which is the second component in ethical decision making. And the last component of ethical decision making is application. Once the issue is identified and articulated a resolution must be applied using proper ethics. The owner Kathy of Kudler Fine Foods had no support because she felt her employees were not trust worthy, therefore when it came to the operations of the business; Kathy was the only decision maker. Kathy valued her entire business which is why she was unable to remove herself from the day to day activities of the organization. Managers in organizations should be empowered to make decisions that will help the business run effectively. “Having a method for ethical decision making is essential. When practiced regularly, the methods become so familiar that we work through it automatically without consulting the specific steps” (Velasquez, Moberg, Meyer, Shanks, McLean, DeCosse’, Andre’, Hanson, 2009).
