What is easy for some is not easy for all, a familiar saying but one that may not be used very often. This saying applies directly to what it can be like finding one’s identity.
When I started high school I thought I had myself all figured out, I could not have been more wrong. I’ve learned from experience that so many things shape who you are and how you’re going to turn out: specific situations, people, items, it’s honestly endless. With endless possibilities comes an endless exploration to find one’s self. I must say though, people have shaped me more than anything. There is a lot to be learned on this new journey, college is definitely been an adjustment but in many ways a positive one. I’m sure that all of us students can agree one of the best parts of living at school away from home, is the freedom. We aren’t told when we have to be home at night, or who we should be hanging around with. All those little things that are basically particular to each other’s households, but none the less I’m sure most of us are happy to be out and on our own. This move has been mostly good for me, sometimes I think about what it may have been like if I just stayed home and went to college. Then I realized something very important, that is that it took me being out on my own to figure out and get a little glimpse at what it’s going to be like to be out on my own for good. Yes, it has only been about a month, but I would like to think it will only get easier.
Many people around my age think they know who they are. I have proof they are wrong.
