What this report is about:
This report is about the difference and similarities of Perkins and Antony James. I will be talking about job roles from different functional areas from each business, comparing the roles and responsibilities within each role and talking about the similarities and differences. The second part of this report will be analyzing how the structure of each job roles affects the job roles within the business.

The business is privately owned by Antony James, he opened up the business in 2003. He is a sole trader which means he owns the business himself, there are advantages of owning a business such as not being able to expand to a big scale as there is only one owner and the size of the business, disadvantages would be such as the business being unlimited and if he fell in to debt he would have his personal belongings taken including his business till he could pay back.

A individual working for Perkins in the human resources department would have a clear understanding of Perkins objectives, and be able to devise and implement policies, also they should be able to retain the right staff needed to meet Perkins objectives. A HR professional would be dealing with staff welfare as well as administration duties, along with strategy and planning, At Perkins a individual would be working closely with various departments, increasingly in consultancy role, assisting the line managers to understand and implements policies and procedures. This individual would promote equality and diversity as part of the culture and organisation. As Perkins is a engine making company a HR worker would have to consult and make aware a wide range of people of health and safety. Recruiting staff is a important role, the worker should be well aware of the person specification and make sure the job description fits the chosen candidate perfectly and the candidate can offer the business skills other candidates did not posses, also recruiting staff would include preparing job adverts, checking application forms, shortlisting, interviewing and then finally selecting the candidate. Undertaking regular salary reviews is also a responsibility of a worker in the HR department, this is important because without this the right amount of salary may not be given to the right person, due to Perkins being at such a large scale there are many ranks of workers, from directors to managers and managers to assistant managers and so on, eg a manager will be earning more then a worker who is working for the manager, this is because the manger has more work to do. Negotiating with staff and managers, eg issues relating to pay and conditions. A HR worker would be in charge of all this in a team. Similarities between Antony James (administration) and a HR worker is that they both look after the employees, Antony him Self recruits the best possible workers that would boost revenue for his business and a worker would do the same for Perkins, he/she would attain the best possible candidate. It is Antony's job for the welfare and safety of his employees and would make sure that all four of his employees including him self were aware of the health and safety procedure, as a Perkins HR worker would...
