Perception and its impact on communication, power and politics in organizations

Introduction

Organizations establishment function to fulfill needs of the people. In today’s competitive and yet challenging world, the organizations have to be growth-oriented. Organizations are composed of number of individuals working independently or in teams, and number of such teams makes a department and number of such departments makes an organization. It is a formal structure and all departments have to function in a coordinated manner to achieve the organizational objective [1].

It focuses on developing and using power in an organization that it is also often gives power to people who do not have it from their organizational position. Basically, political behavior and power provides a direct relationship that give impact to an organizations.
Therefore, the goal of this study is to describe the issue, analyze the problems faced and the discussion of previous proposal that have been made.

Literature Review

PERCEPTION AND ITS IMPACT ON COMMUNICATION IN ORGANIZATION

Organizational communication can be broadly defined as communication with one another in the context of an organization as discussed by sholars (Eisenberg & Goodall, 1997; Shockley-Zalabak, 2006) [4]. This type of communication includes activities of sending and receiving messages through various layers of authority, using various message systems, and discussing various topics of interest to the group we belong to or the company we work for. Organizational communication research has mainly been conducted both in the business management field and in the communication field; however, researchers have provided little knowledge about organizational communication and its roles and effects.
Effective communication can enhance organizational outcomes in seminal studies done by (Garnett, Marlowe, & Pandey, 2008; Pandey & Garnett, 2006). Communication can influence on the perceptions and opinions about persons, communities, organizations, governments, and even society. One of the outcomes of communication is related to the flow of information, regulations, policies, and procedures. Other than that, communication is frequently expected to share information with members, to coordinate activities, to reduce unnecessary managerial burdens and rules, and ultimately to improve organizational performance. While the literature is contributing to establishing an understanding of how the context of the organization influences communication processes and how the nature of communication differentiates it from other forms of organizational behavior, theoretical and empirical work still remains to be done to answer how organizational communication operates in public and non-profit organizations and how it influences managerial issues and outcomes.
Organizational communication plays an important role in training, knowledge dissemination and learning during the process of strategy implementation. In fact, communication is pervasive in every aspect of strategy implementation, as it relates in a complex way to organizing processes, organizational context and implementation objectives which, in turn, have an effect on the process of implementation. The content of such communications includes clearly explaining what new responsibilities, tasks, and duties need to be performed by the affected employees. It also includes the why behind changed job activities, and more fundamentally the reasons why the new strategic decision was made firstly [5].
