PATRICK KAVANAGH POEMS
My second task is to pick two poems from the works of the poet Patrick Kavanagh. The two poems I will be analysing are ON RAGLAN ROAD and MEMORY OF MY FATHER.
ON RAGLAN ROAD
The poem On Raglan Road stood out to me when I read it, it was very interesting compared to other poems belonging to Patrick Kavanagh, his other poems were very hard to interpret but with the poem On Raglan Road I could understand and fall deeply into the poem.
The poem is in paired rhymes, it is quite a long poem, it has a lot of information and detail which you could analyse down to every last detail but still you would to say know if you the reader were right or wrong it is ...view middle of the document...
In the fourth paragraph the poet says ‘ ON A QUIET STREET WHERE OLD GHOSTS MEET I SEE HER WALKING NOW’, this to me says this is the street where he had met her previously, was this lady a prostitute ? that he had met as it’s the same street. The poet used the word clay was this meaning that she had a heart of stone did she not show any feelings or her real personality, did she have a bad reputation was all of these descriptions her job description that he had fallen in love with.
The poet describes Dublin in autumn, the leaves On Raglan Road and the litter on Grafton street he has given every detail to which he thinks were important significance for this poem he had written.
MEMORY OF MY FATHER
In the poem Memory Of My Father, I fell in love with this poem as soon as I read it, I knew instantly or presumed that the boy in the poem did not know if the man in the poem that died was indeed his father.
The poem rhymes every second sentence, it has four verses and is not very long. The poem is short with good detail for the reader to interpret and the poem is interesting which makes you keep wanting to read more.
In the first verse the boy describes that every old man he sees reminds him of his father to me this says he never knew his father only in his fathers’ old age. The boy says the...
