Title of Paper
The purpose of this paper is to reflect on one’s personal and professional lives’ during his or her program study at University of Phoenix. I will reflect on one’s growth while looking at the effects of completing the Human Services degree program of current and future professional goals. In this paper, I will discuss one’s views of learning, influences of personal growth and development including professional competences and career goals. Role of Learning
I started at University of Phoenix with no knowledge of APA format less, good writing skills, leadership, and communication skills including PowerPoint and working with teams, which is the foundation of student’s work at University of Phoenix. I did not have experience in community organizations (nonprofit); if one were to succeed at University of Phoenix, one had to stop running from help and start looking for it. I received help from staff and faculty because I did not initially possess experience of the field including the necessary skills to attend an accelerated degree program.
Because of empowerment of faculty, staff, and one’s learning experiences, which involved tutoring, writing, and math labs, which include additional studies at Laney College. I have become an influential person as a wife; using reasoning and critical thinking skills to prioritize daily tasks and manage one’s time while implementing logic and reasoning skills to recognize the needs of my husband and others. As a Stepmother, one has to use decision-making and problem-solving skills to assist my stepdaughter in making the right choices and decisions in life. Additionally, these skills help children work through majority of the problems and challenges that confronts youths.
Alternatively, I use one’s skills of information retrieval, utilization, and research when searching for specific documentation, data or information, which has helped one to develop better writing and communication skills, as a student. In the community, I use collaboration skills to conduct outreach services, and facilitate in-house meetings of program members while building organization of both Urojas Community Services and Healthy Communities Inc. (Voices of Hope). I have had the learning advantages of many theoretical practices, philosophies, and models of effective helping, which carries into the workplace. I believe that obtaining a desired position and salary in a field that makes one happy are greatest benefits of a college education, which is key to understanding the role and responsibilities of Human Services Professions.
According to ‘The Human Services Worker; a Generic Job Description” (n.d.), “The primary purpose of the human service worker is to assist individuals and communities to function as effectively as possible in the major domains of living” (para. 2). Therefore, one has to apply skills, experience, and education to the practices of helping in an attempt to increase quality of life and care while employing professional competencies.
Professional Competence. As I reflect and evaluate one’s professional competences and experiences, which have contributed to both personal and professional growth, I acknowledge specific skills acquired and learned during one’s degree program.
