All kinds of cough and cold medications are becoming popular due to their recreational effects no matter of dangerous results if overdosed.Ways of Encouraging and Supporting Drug UseMany people worldwide believe that drug addiction is not their problem. Americans are no exception and this ignorance contributes to drugs circulation. Drugs like cocaine, heroin, or marijuana are very popular in the Unites States and are available everywhere. Additionally, parents, to some point, are responsible for uncontrollable use of drugs among teenagers. Many times they also abuse drugs showing simultaneously their children wrong path leading to addiction. However, many times people or teenagers do not even need to follow others. Their lack of self confidence, low self esteem, stress, or desire to be accepted are great motivators to use drugs. Today, many substance abuse programs available at different rehabilitation centers that provide effective care for people with substance abuse problems; however, no everyone is willing to take advantage of them especially if encouraged to use drugs by other sources.Health Problems Arising From Drug UseThe effects of marijuana on people's health are more known now than they were in the past. It has been proven that "prolonged use of marijuana leads to some changes in the brain, impairs the ability to concentrate and retain information, increases anxiety, panic attacks and depression while exacerbating symptoms in people already prone to those problems" (Drugstory, 2008). Marijuana use causes also other serious health problems: respiratory problems, cough, cancer, etc. Cocaine is also a very addictive and harmful drug. It "makes the user feel euphoric and energetic. Common health effects include heart attacks, respiratory failure, strokes, and seizures. Large amounts can cause bizarre and violent behavior" (Nida, 2008). Heroine enters the brain very fast and it provides people with similar experiences as cocaine. Euphoria is an immediate experience after the injection and is usually followed by "a low that often makes the user quite sleepy, or nod off. Heroin is considered a depressant, a drug that slows the metabolism, breathing, and heart rate down" (Narconon, 2008). "Methamphetamine has become a drug of choice across the nation and the 'one hit and you're hooked' drug is one of the hardest for health officials to treat and users to kick." (King, 2006). Methamphetamine affects the central nervous system; it gives energy, causes speech and breathing problems, increased body temperature and blood pressure.According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), the results from the Monitoring the Future Program, which surveys 8th, 10th, and 12th graders reported that "methamphetamine use has doubled in the last decade" (National Institute Drug Abuse, 2006). Even though these results only address methamphetamine use, teenagers have increased their use of other drugs as well. This raise in teenage drug use indicated many...
