Ang pamahiin ay sinasabing di-nakabatay sa agham, ito ay nagmula sa mga nakatatanda. Maaaring ginagawa ng mga tao ang mga ito bilang respeto at pagbibigay-galang sa mga nakatatandang nagpayo na sundin ang mga pamahiin.

“Sa sobrang tanda na ng kultura ng pamahiin, hindi na natin matutunton pa ang pinagmulan ng katagang madalas nating marinig: “Wala namang mawawala”. Wala nga bang mawawala? Ang unang-una at pangitang-pangitang nawawala sa mga pumapatol sa pamahiin ay ang lohika o tamang pangangatwiran. Ang salitang “lohika” ay tumutukoy sa sekwensya at koneksyon ng mga konsepto at konklusyon. Ang ikalawang nawawala sa mga taong mapamahiin ay ang kanilang kalayaan. Nagiging alipin sila ng takot, at bilanggo ng maling kaisipan. Ang ikatlong nawawala sa ganitong mga tao ay ang konsepto ng katotohanan. Isipin mo na lang ang isang tao na nakatingin sa mabangis na oso pero ang nakikita niya ay isa lamang puno; ganito rin ang sitwasyon ng mga taong bulag sa katotohanan --- nasa harapan na ang kamatayan pero inaakala pa ring ito ay kaligtasan. Ang ikaapat na nawawala sa mga naniniwala sa ganitong mga kathang-isip ay ang tunay na pagkilala sa Diyos at sa kanyang mga nilalang. Marami sa mga nagsasalita ay hindi nag-iisip, at buong tiwala nagsasabi na ang buhay ng tao ay nakasalalay sa tamang pagpapasya, swerte at pananampalataya sa Diyos. Ang pagpapasya ay bagay na kontrolado ng tao; ang pananampalataya naman ay sa pagitan ng tao at ng Diyos; pero ang swerte ay konsepto ng kapalarang hiwalay sa impluwensya ng Diyos at ng tao, sa halip ay nasa ilalim ng mga kapangyarihang natural na may autonomiya. Pinasisinungalinan nito ang katotohanang walang nagaganap sa sangnilikha na hindi pinahihintulutan ng Diyos. Isa itong porma ng pagsamba sa hindi tunay na Diyos kundi sa mga “pwersa ng kalikasan”. Ito ang kabilang mukha ng “nature worship” na ginagawa ng mga katutubo at mga pagano. Maging matalino sa pagpapasya at paniniwala, dahil sa pagkapit sa maling kaisipan, hindi totoo na walang mawawala.”

Walang basehang paniniwala ang pamahiin hinggil sa mga bagay-bagay na wala naming relasyon sa isa’t-isa na kung saan malaki ang nagagawang impluwensya sa pamumuhay ng mga Filipino lalo na sa lalawigan ng Tarlac, Bulacan at Nueva Vizcaya.

Ang pamahiin ay siyang nagiging panunturan ng mga taga-Tarlac, taga-Bulacan at taga-Nueva Vizcaya ng kanilang pang-araw-araw na buhay, pati na rin ang pagiging babala ng mga ito sa gawain, plano o hangarin sa kanilang buhay.
